The Guyana Red Cross Society has begun preparations for a new regional initiative which will target key populations that have higher risks of HIV. The initiative will also involve the collaboration of the Bahamas and Jamaica Red Cross Societies with the American Red Cross. Whilst initial preparations are ongoing, the actual programme will begin during the summer of this year.The Guyana leg of the initiative will focus on miners and sex workers in the remote hinterland areas. This group has over the years been targeted for various public awareness programmes, and has been tagged as vulnerable and underserved.
